Apply For 2016 /17 UCL Institute for Global Health African Graduate Scholarship in UK

UCL Institute for Global Health is now accepting applications for African graduate scholarship. Scholarship is available for selected students who intend to pursue an MSc in Global Health and Development.

The UCL Institute for Global Health is a world-leading centre of research and teaching excellence in global health.

A cross-disciplinary approach is at the heart of our research and teaching, and we draw on the expertise of over 200 staff from across UCL.

Applicant must have minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor’s degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard.

Course Level: Scholarship is awarded to pursue postgraduate programme.

Study Subject: Scholarship is available for selected students who intend to pursue an MSc in Global Health and Development at the UCL Institute for Global Health.

Scholarship Award: The scheme might offer scholarships towards UCL tuition fees, accommodation, and cost of living. The candidate must arrange for and obtain the additional funding required to cover travel, student visa, and initial expenses.

Eligibility: Candidates must meet the following criteria:
-The candidate must be an African national and a permanent resident of an African nation at the time of application.
-The candidate must have made an application and been accepted to UCL to study for a full-time postgraduate programme at the Institute for Global Health for the coming academic year.
-The scheme offers a substantial scholarship towards UCL tuition fees, accommodation and some living costs. The candidate must also be able to provide evidence that he/she has secured other sources of funding for travelling to and from the UK.

Nationality: African nationals are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

List of Countries: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia and Zimbabwe

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement:
-A minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor’s degree or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. An applicant whose qualifications vary from UCL standards may be admitted if they show evidence of an adequate academic background or work experience in an appropriate field.
-An undergraduate or ‘first’ degree in medicine, nursing, social science, development studies or an allied subject, recognized by UCL
-A minimum 2.1 level degree or equivalent GPA
-English language ability according to the UCL GOOD level.
-Relevant work experience is highly desirable, preferably within a developing country setting.

English Language Requirement:
British Council International Language Testing System (IELTS)
Standard level: Overall grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the subtests.
Good level: Overall grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.
Advanced level: Overall grade of 7.5 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the subtests.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
Standard level: Score of 92 overall with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening
Good level: Score of 100 overall with 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening
Advanced level: Score of 109 overall 24/30 in reading and writing and 20/30 in speaking and listening

Supporting Material: Candidates are required to submit their completed scholarship application forms with the following documentation:
-Two reference letters. (Preferably one professional and one academic reference). Reference letters must be on letter-headed paper with a signature and must be signed across the seal of the envelope to ensure confidentiality (if sent by post). If sent by e-mail the referee can send the signed letter directly to Paloma Garcia Paredes at p.garciaparedes-at-ucl.ac.uk
-A copy of the UCL unconditional offer letter for the relevant academic year that the scholarship is intended for.
-A current CV.
-A letter confirming current employment status and annual salary in GBP.
-Copies of certificates and transcripts for higher education and professional training.
-A detailed personal statement
-Proof of funding status including evidence that they have applied to other funding bodies for the additional expenses. If any additional funding has been obtained, the applicant must provide evidence of this in the form of a signed letter from the funding organisation stating the additional sponsorship/scholarship amount in sterling. If the funding comes from personal resources, copies of official bank statements showing the balance of funds must be submitted.

How to Apply: Once candidates have been accepted in the IGH postgraduate programme and obtained an unconditional offer letter, candidates are required to complete a scholarship application form. Please return the application form by post or email.
