Apply For 2017 KU Leuven Travel Specialization Grants for Researchers in Belgium

KU Leuven is now accepting applications for specialization grants for researchers from the South. Funding is available for specializing in a certain research field, preparing a publication or participating in a training programme.

The grants are meant to help the researchers pay for a research visit to Belgium. The programme intends to offer new opportunities to researchers.

KU Leuven offers its students an academic education based on high-level research, with the aim of preparing them to assume their social responsibilities.

Applicants should have obtained their Ph.D. at least three years prior to applying. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Course Level: Grants are available for a research visit to Belgium.

Study Subject: Funding is available for research stays at KU Leuven:

  • with a maximum duration of 90 days
  • with the aim of specializing in a certain research field, preparing a publication or participating in a training programme
  • in the context of university development cooperation.

Scholarship Award: Grants will include

  • A monthly allowance of € 1,500
  • A plane ticket (with a maximum of € 1,200)
  • Insurance coverage during the stay in Leuven.

Scholarship can be taken in Belgium

Eligibility: To be eligible for these grants the applicant must be

  • Applicants should have obtained their Ph.D. at least three years prior to applying.
  • Applicants should originate from one of the Least Developed Countries, Low-Income Countries or Low-Middle-Income Countries, as indicated on the DAC list of OECD.
  • Applicants should be employed by an institution located in one of the countries mentioned above.
  • Applicants should be invited and supported by a KU Leuven supervisor who is a senior staff member (ZAP).
  • Priority will be given to applicants under the age of fifty.

Nationality: Applicants should originate from one of the Least Developed Countries, Low-Income Countries or Low-Middle-Income Countries, as indicated on the DAC list of OECD.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants should have obtained their Ph.D. at least three years prior to applying.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

How to Apply: Candidates should send their application to Stefania Schepers before the deadline and use this form to do so additionally will have to send the following documents:

  • a copy of their doctoral degree certificate
  • an invitation letter from their KU Leuven supervisor
  • their CV
  • a copy of their passport.
