2017/2018 ESED Scholarships in Sustainable Energy Development for Developing Countries

Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership annually awards ESED scholarships for pursuing advanced studies in sustainable energy development. These scholarships are open to the citizens of a developing country or territory identified for official OECD development aid in the DAC list of ODA recipients. Up to ten Masters scholarships will be awarded for up to two years. The value of scholarship is US$ 23,000 per year. It is preferable that the candidate pursues her/his studies in a university outside his home country.

Description

‣ The purpose of the 2017-2018 ESED Scholarships is to support outstanding students pursuing advanced studies in sustainable energy development and to encourage meaningful contributions to the collective body of knowledge about this subject.

Eligibility

 

To be eligible to apply for 2017-2018 ESED Scholarships , students must

‣ plan to undertake studies at the Masters level in areas directly related to sustainable energy development

‣ be citizens of the developing countries and territories identified for OECD official development aid in the DAC List of ODA Recipients

Selection Criteria for 2017-2018 -esed-scholarships

‣ The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership considers an outstanding student to be one who:

  • graduates with excellent grades In the top 20% of her/his class.
  • is determined to advance her/his knowledge and understanding.
  • has a history of community involvement.
  • is committed to sustainable energy development.
  • is committed to return and contribute to her /his home country’s development.

Notification:

‣ Selected applicants will be posted on the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership website within 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline.

What will I be requested to do to apply for the ESED Scholarship?

1. Create an account using the online ESED application system.

2. Fill in the required information.

3. Upload the required documents :

a. Passport or Birth certificate

b. Curriculum Vitae

c. Copies of transcripts

d. Admission or Deferral Letter

e. Program Outline

f. Academic Reference Form

g. Personal Reference

h. Applicant’s Statement Form

4. Verify that the status of your application on the application system indicates that your application has been submited to the Academic Panel. If it indicates that your applciation is on hold then please make sure to complete your application before the deadline or it will be discarded.

Please find underneath the description of the requested documents:

a. Passport or birth certificate. Refer to the eligibility section above for country eligibility;

b. Curriculum vitæ;

c. Copies of transcripts for degrees and final grades;

• Bachelor’s transcripts do not need to be the original copies. Please note if you are selected you will be requested to provide original copies of all documents.

d. Admission or deferral letter from an approved academic institution to undertake studies in sustainable energy development;

If your admission is pending, please include evidence that you have applied for admission;

If your admission has been deferred, please included the university deferral confirmation;

If this application is for the second year of a two-year programme, please include a certificate of enrolment and your results for the first year.

e. Program outline

Please attach the outline of your master’s program at the university of your first choice. Please make sure that your program has a high content related  to sustainable energy.

Please note that programs that have no or small relation with sustainable energy will be discarded

f. Academic reference

Please attach the ”Academic Reference Form” provided for this purpose. The form may be downloaded from here.

Should the referee wish to send his/her reference directly to the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership, they can send it to esedscholarship@globalelectricity.org. Once received by the General Secretariat it will be indicated in the online application system.

Only references will be accepted by e-mail. All other documents must be uploaded using the online application system.

g. Personal reference, in letterform, must be dated and come from a person (not family member) who can discuss other personal qualities or interests that make you specially qualified to receive the scholarship.
